Moody strikes late to win Bramshaw Open

Friday 16th July – Bramshaw Golf Club, New Forest

On the last Friday before Covid restrictions are finally eased for the summer, Bramshaw Golf Club hosted its annual Scratch Open for the “Manor Bowl” with 64 players taking the field (after a few late withdrawals due to self isolation) – superb conditions met the competitors with the course playing tough but fair, and the temperature rising hour by hour.

Leading the morning gross scores with a fine 70 (-1) was Ferndown’s Justin Morris; leading by 1 from Mathew Thomas (Stoneham) on level par, with Ryan Moody (Stoneham), Oli Park (Dudsbury) and Matt Sandy two shots further back with 73’s (+2).

As temperatures soared in the afternoon, a gentle breeze picked up and the course got tougher and tougher. However, one man coped with the conditions better than most, a day’s best 69 from ex-Bramshaw member Ryan Moody brought his score back to level par. A late entry, Ryan was out a lot earlier than the better players, and the level par total would not be matched. Mat Thomas’ afternoon 76 would be enough to claim second on count-back on +5 from Justin Morris (77), closely followed by Joe Buenfeld (+6) and Robert Wheeler (+7); both with closing 74’s.

In the nett competition, a fantastic nett 67 by John Foster (Bramshaw) secured a one shot victory at -2 from Mark Goodhind (Boundary Lakes).

Congratulations to all that took park; a huge thank you to everyone who supported the event and especially the greenkeeping team for presenting the course in such fantastic condition. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2022!
