2019 Bramshaw Manor Masters & ‘Mini-Masters’ Junior Opens

Bramshaw Golf Club, New Forest, 28 October 2019

After a week with periods of prolonged rain, Bramshaw Golf Club was blessed with fine weather, albeit a little chilly for its Manor Masters Junior Open and ‘Mini-Masters’ tournament (for younger, less experienced junior golfers). With nearly 90 young golfers representing over 20 Clubs playing in the event, this was the largest field in its history. The field comprised a good mix of those who return each year, others playing at Bramshaw for the first time and several playing in their first-ever Junior Open.

With the golf course playing its full length, the day promised to provide a stiff test for the golfers and with the colder, autumnal weather, conditions for the parents, grandparents and our team of nearly 30 Bramshaw volunteers were also challenging. With our members out in force, giving up their time to ‘meet and greet’, ball-spot, provide refreshments, marshal etc the junior golfers and parents/family members were treated to what hopefully was a very enjoyable day. With the first golfers arriving at 7am and the last leaving at 6pm, the Club was ‘buzzing’ all day and we must thank the whole team of Management, Members, Catering and Professionals for supporting our junior golf event.

The golf itself proved challenging, with just 6 of the field playing to or better than their handicaps. In the Manor Masters tournament, each and every prize was hotly contested. With overall scratch and handicap prizes, plus prizes for 3 divisions, based on handicap, there was a lot to play for and it was great to see the Clubhouse filled for the Presentation after the competition. The overall prize-winners were:

2019 Manor Masters (Scratch) Champion – Charlie Forster (North Hants - 2 H’Cap) – Gross 72

2019 Manor Masters (Handicap) Champion – Imogen Stratman (Ferndown Forest - 24 H’Cap) – Nett 62

The winners of the 3 Handicap Divisions were:

1st Division (0-8 H’Cap):                Danny Coombs (Bramshaw)) – nett 69

2nd Division (8-17 H’Cap):             Lois Phillips (Dudsbury) – nett 70

3rd Division (18 + H’Cap):              Funky Diamond (Dudsbury) – nett 71

The Bramshaw ‘Mini-Masters’ was introduced in 2018 to recognise the importance of encouraging more young boys and girls to take up golf. In its second year the field doubled in size with golfers coming from further afield to compete. The winners of the main prizes on the day were:

Best Visiting Player:  Edward Zhou – 46

Best Bramshaw Player: Elliot Hurd - 47
