Bramshaw Golf Club, New Forest, 4 February 2020
After being crowned National Champions in October 2019, the Bramshaw Juniors head off to Portugal to compete in the Home Nations Championships on Friday 14 February.
Since October, the Club have been active, running events to raise funds to help the juniors on their way. The latest event, run on Friday 31 January (Brexit Day) proved perfect timing for a visit from Mike Osman, alias ‘Boris’. With a full clubhouse, great food, great company and brilliant entertainment, the members and their guests were treated to a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The evening began with a wonderful meal, followed by a raffle with prizes including tickets to the final day of the BMW PGA Championship, a case of wine and a £50 John Lewis voucher.
And then, we were waiting for Boris....a very busy Boris! Suddenly, Boris was there making his usual, calm, quiet entrance. Not really! The impressions and comedy started from the first few steps into the clubhouse and apart from a 10-minute break before an auction, the laughter flowed with Mike ably supported by his sound man, Alan. With impressions of sports stars, politicians and entertainers, the audience was spellbound throughout and several people ended up with aching jaws and/or ribs due to excessive laughter!
It didn’t stop there either – after a short break, Mike hosted an auction to raise more money for the juniors, with lots donated by Mike himself, members and local company (R&M Electrical). Mike led the auction and turned on the magic again, performing impression after impression, joke after joke and made a very substantial amount of money for our juniors into the bargain. With prior bids made as well, I must take this opportunity to thank every single person who placed a bid, either before the evening or during it.
Overall the evening raised a stunning £4500, which is a tremendous achievement and very much appreciated by our Junior Team.
Nev James, Junior Organiser said “The whole Bramshaw Club always gives massive support to its younger members and this is another terrific example of that. It is an amazing Golf Club.”
What a night – a very, very special night!
