12th August (The Vale & Cottrell Park, Wales) 2020
Our resident star Junior golfer, Joe Buenfeld has done it again!
About a month or so ago Joe competed at Brocket Hall and was pipped at the post, finishing runner-up in the Faldo Series England South (II) competition.
In an attempt to go one better, Joe played in the Faldo Series Wales Championship event played at The Vale (Rounds 1 & 3) and Cottrell Park (Round 2) from the 10th - 12th August. For those who may not be familiar with the series, the winner in each category in each event books a spot in the Grand Final in Abu Dhabi for the Faldo Series Finals.
Watching the Faldo Series website intently, we were getting more and more excited as Joe, in the U18 category was in a very tight battle for the top places yet again. He was up against Jack Macdonald and George Durkin who were both 1 under gross in the late stages of the final round. Joe was in the final group and after a birdie at the 15th hole he held a slender 1-shot lead. As others had finished, he knew he had to par the last 3 holes to win the tournament and take his place at Abu Dhabi. At The Vale, the 16th and 17th holes are challenging and Joe, with his normal cool head, parred them both. A drive down the left side of the 18th fairway left him on a down-slope with a tricky pitch shot. In typical ‘cool’ fashion, Joe, put his pitch to 15ft and calmly 2-putted to take the title. In a fantastic event, Joe's -2 total was only beaten twice by two golfers in the U21 competition.

Joe, who is already European Junior Open Champion, is playing superb golf at the moment as outlined by winning the Bramshaw Men's Open against a very strong field. He is very deservedly reaping the rewards for hard work and a great temperament both on and off the course.
He now gets to look forward to a trip to the Al Ain Equestrian Shooting & Golf Club in Abu Dhabi between 10th - 12th November 2020 for the Faldo Series Grand Final!
