The Forest Course
Hole 3 - Roundhill View
- Par 4
- White 344 Yards
- Yellow 335 Yards
- Red 276 Yards
- HCAP 6/12
Roundhill, as per its name, has a green perched high up on the hill. The first hole of “cow corner”, this risk and reward par 4 was the old 18th for many years. Often the resting spot for our local bovine residents, a well struck driver off the tee will leave a short chip up the hill. Alternatively, layup with a fairway wood or long iron to your perfect wedge yardage for the uphill second shot. Beware of too much spin, and the cricket matches taking place at Bramshaw Cricket Club; the outfield is just to the left of the “fairway”.
Hole 5 - Budgen Wood
- Par 4
- White 296 Yards
- Yellow 287 Yards
- Red 273 Yards
- HCAP 18/14
The end of “Cow Corner”. Another great little risk and reward par 4. The sensible play is to lay up short of the downslope to leave an easy wedge to a green that slopes from back to front. Those more adventurous can give it a go! Have you got what it takes?
Hole 6 - The Dip
- Par 4
- White 476 Yards
- Yellow 457 Yards
- Red 439 Yards
- HCAP 16/4
A fabulous short par 5. Think it’s easy at 476 yards? Come and try for yourself! An all but blind par 5 until 100 yards from the green, this is a hole for the purists. Set in the valley of Kings Garn, the green site is one of the best on the course!
Hole 7 - Fern’s Carry
- Par 4
- White 347 Yards
- Yellow 340 Yards
- Red 317 Yards
- HCAP 10/2
A lovely short par 4 that requires shots to carry two ravines. The tee shot is first; aim straight up the pathway and you’ll find the “fairway”. The second shot is easier but still requires a well struck iron to find the green. The green slopes from back left, to front right.
Hole 9 - Kings Garn
- Par 4
- White 341 Yards
- Yellow 335 Yards
- Red 323 Yards
- HCAP 2/6
We’re nearly at the half way stage and WHAT A HOLE to finish the front 9; Kings Garn. Named after the ancient brook running the length of the hole and meandering in front of the green; this hole was one of European Tour legend, and life member John Jacobs’ (OBE) top 18 holes in the world! At only 341 yards it’s not long, but you have to be pin point off of the tee, and the green… what a setting! It’s worth it for the green fee alone!
Hole 10 - Long Stretch
- Par 5
- White 484 Yards
- Yellow 483 Yards
- Red 478 Yards
- HCAP 17/3
A relatively straight forward par 5; it’s just straight (if you know what line to take off of the tee). Tee it high, aim at the left hand marker post, and let it fly. Longer hitters will be able to go for the green in 2, but be aware that it gets narrower the closer you get. The safe play is to lay up and leave an easy pitch or chip up the narrow green. A great birdie chance.
Hole 11 - Garns Approach
- Par 4/5
- White 425 Yards
- Yellow 416 Yards
- Red 396 Yards
- HCAP 1/7
The hardest hole on the course. A long par four with a cambered fairway waiting to throw your ball towards the ferns and trees on the right. If you survive the tee shot, a long second awaits over the Kings Garn to a double tiered green. Don’t go long otherwise your chip will be lightning quick.
Hole 12 - Bunkers
- Par 3
- White 141 Yards
- Yellow 134 Yards
- Red 126 Yards
- HCAP 13/15
What a hole! Whether it’s Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.. a hole that wouldn’t look out of place on any heathland course in the South.
Named after it’s unique features (for the Forest Course) – Bunkers is a brilliant short par 3 that demands accuracy. It is the only hole on the course with bunkers, a favoured spot for the pigs who use the “facilities” for a good scratch.
Hole 13 - Deers Leap
- Par 4
- White 368 Yards
- Yellow 335 Yards
- Red 327 Yards
- HCAP 5
The farthest point away from the Clubhouse you can get on either course and another fantastic hole. Bordering Linwood Forest; the hole gets its name from a ditch which would be a deer’s last obstacle before disappearing into the woodland and away from their pursuers! It’s now a great feature that you must carry to reach the safety of the putting surface. Keep right off of the tee (but not too far right) and you’ll be rewarded with a clear view of the green, sloping from back to front.
Hole 14 - Rustlers Oak
- Par 4
- White 409 Yards
- Yellow 380 Yards
- Red 371 Yards
- HCAP 3/1
With its gruesome history this is a hole not to be messed with. A tough par four with a cambered fairway taking your ball back bouncing away further from the putting green. A 4 here is always well deserved. From the tee, aim straight for the horizon and keep away from Rustlers Oak and the woods on the left. Rumour has it, the Rustler’s Oak was the spot where local rustlers and poachers where hung for their crimes!
Hole 15 - Nook
- Par 4
- White 314 Yards
- Yellow 298 Yards
- Red 285 Yards
- HCAP 9/11
On to the newest hole on the course; the new 15th and the “Nook” – love or hate the new hole, we’re sure it will grow on you. It’s just got a bit of catching up to do with the other holes… over 140 years to be precise! A great, short, risk and reward par 4 where “going for it” could be easier than the lay up! The raised green is a tricky one to hit from any yardage but as long as you miss the ferns and cross-ditch with the tee shot, you should be in good position.
Hole 16 - Rest-Awhile
- Par 4
- White 337 Yards
- Yellow 323 Yards
- Red 314 Yards
- HCAP 15/9
A short, straight par 4. The aim off of the tee is to keep left to avoid the imposing oak in the distance, positioned on the right side of the fairway. Stray too far left and you’ll be playing with the deer in the trees. A short-iron from the fairway to a narrow green; anything on the putting surface will leave a good birdie chance.
Hole 17 - The Moat
- Par 3
- White 159 Yards
- Yellow 155 Yards
- Red 121 Yards
- HCAP 7/17
Another superb par 3! The Moat is not long at 160 yards but you have to hit the green! A par 3 that changes dramatically from season to season. As the name suggests; in Spring, Autumn or Winter anything other than perfect could leave you getting your feet wet. The green slopes subtlety from left to right.
Hole 18 - Road Hole
- Par 4
- White 282 Yards
- Yellow 275 Yards
- Red 267 Yards
- HCAP 11/13
It’s time to hit the road. But not with your ball… – A short, dog-leg left up the hill. Aim for the corner with your tee shot to leave a short wedge up the hill to a green sloping slightly from back to front. Stray too far left off of the tee and you’ll find yourself blocked out by trees.
Once back in your car, turn right out of the car park and head back to the Clubhouse for a well-earned drink!
The Manor Course
Hole 1 - Captain's Drive
- Par 4
- White 358 Yards
- Yellow 348 Yards
- Red 335 Yards
- HCAP 13/9
The first hole on the Manor Course is a gentle dog leg right to left, with a fairway that slopes subtlety the opposite direction, left to right. The ideal tee shot is over the left hand trees, or a gentle draw up the middle. A good tee shot will leave a mid to short iron to the green; itself small with a subtle left to right borrow towards Shepherd’s Gutter; the stream running through the heart of the course. Overall, a good birdie chance to start your round.
Hole 2 - Ditch Too Far
- Par 5
- White 554 Yards
- Yellow 528 Yards
- Red 457 Yards
- HCAP 3/1
One of the hardest par 5’s in Hampshire. Similar to the 1st hole, the ideal shot is gentle draw up the middle but with out of bounds all up the left hand side, the safe shot is to bail out right. The second shot is a lay-up for all but the longest of hitters; ideally to around 100 yards. Be careful when playing your third shot, there is a deep gulley in front of the green so ensure that enough club is used for the carry.
Hole 3 - Twin Oaks
- Par 4
- White 410 Yards
- Yellow 356 Yards
- Red 340 Yards
- HCAP 5/7
A tough driving hole, ideally the shot needs to be arrow straight because the second shot has to be threaded between the two oak trees that sit 100 yards from the green. With Shepherd’s Gutter running up the left hand side, the bail out shot is to the right. Leave yourself far enough back to take on the height of the oaks if needs be. The green is protected by a bunker at the front so the ideal shot in is to aim to the back right corner. A great par 4.
Hole 4 - Ace
- Par 3
- White 150 Yards
- Yellow 145 Yards
- Red 129 Yards
- HCAP 17
On the card, a straight forward 150-yard par 3 playing to a raised green. But, be careful, the water hazard to the rear and right can catch an errant shot bouncing off of the bank, and the large front bunker will swallow any shot landing short. The green runs from back to front and a little left to right.
Hole 5 - The Pines
- Par 5
- White 501 Yards
- Yellow 492 Yards
- Red 390 Yards
- HCAP 9/11
The second par 5 on the front 9. Tight off of the tee, the ideal tee shot again needs to be straight or to the left half of the fairway to allow for the easiest lay-up, but again, be aware of the Shepherd’s Gutter running up the left hand side of the fairway. With a good tee shot to here, the green is reachable but the safest way to play the hole is to lay up and leave a short shot in, avoiding the out of bounds long and left of the green. The green has a ridge running through it so it is best to know where the pin is before hitting into it and, ideally, leaving an up-hill putt.
Hole 6 - The Bend
- Par 4/5
- White 415 Yards
- Yellow 405 Yards
- Red 395 Yards
- HCAP 1/5
A long, uphill hole with a sharp dogleg right. The ideal tee shot is at the large oak tree in the distance to the right of the telegraph pole. A bigger hitter could take it over the corner of the trees but be careful of the water hazard running up the right side of the fairway. A drive to the right spot will leave a mid-iron to the green, avoiding the two bunkers that sit in the fairway, short of the green. The green runs slightly downhill from back to front and a little left to right.
Hole 8 - Wellingtonia
- Par 4
- White 407 Yards
- Yellow 393 Yards
- Red 375 Yards
- HCAP 11/3
A lovely par 4 with a majestic Wellingtonia pine tree on the right edge of the fairway. A tee shot over the marker post is the ideal line and will allow the ball to run down the fairway. A wells struck mid-iron to the green should leave a good birdie chance. A great hole.
Hole 9 - The Bell
- Par 3
- White 188 Yards
- Yellow 176 Yards
- Red 160 Yards
- HCAP 15/13
The 9th hole is a mid-length par three with a green the shape of a bell. The green is protected by a strategically placed bunker that forms the “clanger” of the bell. Avoid the rhododendrons to the right; they are not as nice as they look.
Hole 10 - Pillars
- Par 4
- White 318 Yards
- Yellow 308 Yards
- Red 284 Yards
- HCAP 16/15
A gentle dog-leg right downhill with the drive through to mature Fir trees that frame the tee. There is a water hazard that runs down the left of the hole and the two fairway bunkers either side of the fairway give the hole some protection. The green has two levels with the ridge running from middle left to back right. A chance for long hitters to flex some muscle.
Hole 11 - The Cherries
- Par 4
- White 397 Yards
- Yellow 376 Yards
- Red 370 Yards
- HCAP 2
A lovely sweeping dog-leg left par 4 – one of the best holes on the course. The ideal tee shot is aimed at the ghostly oak tree on the right of the fairway. This will allow the ball to kick left with the slope of the fairway, but don’t overdo it because the ever present Shepherd’s Gutter is waiting to catch any ball too far left. A good drive will leave a mid-iron to the green surrounded by cherry and apples trees. A second shot to the right centre of the green usually kicks left and the green itself has a subtle right to left break.
Hole 14 - Just Right
- Par 4
- White 325 Yards
- Yellow 312 Yards
- Red 279 Yards
- HCAP 8
The ideal tee shot for this dog-leg right is a mid-iron or hybrid club aimed at the fir tree at the end of the fairway. Correctly positioned, this leaves an open shot to the slopey green. Miss the cavernous right hand bunker and all you will have to deal with is a big breaking putt.
Hole 15 - Wilf's Way
- Par 5
- White 543 Yards
- Yellow 538 Yards
- Red 452 Yards
- HCAP 6/4
A sweeping dog-leg par 5 from right to left through an avenue of pine trees. The normal landing spot is at the corner of the dog-leg, but bigger hitters can risk cutting the corner to set up a second shot to the green. The normal second shot however is to lay up to the left side of the fairway here leaving a short iron to a green that slopes gently front to back.
Hole 16 - Two Level
- Par 4/5
- White 391 Yards
- Yellow 385 Yards
- Red 363 Yards
- HCAP 10/14
A straight forward par 4 uphill. From the tee there are a couple of small water hazards to drive over and these also run up the left and right of the fairway. A good drive to here will leave a mid to short iron to a split level green.
Hole 17 - Boundary
- Par 4/5
- White 438 Yards
- Yellow 422 Yards
- Red 416 Yards
- HCAP 4/10
Another excellent par for that plays downhill but usually into the prevailing wind. Be careful of the out of bounds that runs done the left side of the hole, and a water hazard on the right. A drive to left centre of the fairway sets up a mid-iron to the green. The best line in to the green is to aim at the left edge of the green and allow the ball to bounce to the right.
Hole 18 - Home Bend
- Par 4
- White 335 Yards
- Yellow 325 Yards
- Red 303 Yards
- HCAP 14/6
A sharp dog-leg left that requires a long-iron or hybrid club to be in the right position to open up the green. Pick a tree off of the tee and aim to be 20 yards short of it to stay in the fairway and give yourself an open look to the narrow, figure of 8 shaped green. Long or left with your second short risks being out of bounds, but a welcome sight, the Clubhouse awaits.
